Great interview, I also grew up reading Rick and Fred in the magazines. Like Rick's GPW, my 85 CJ7 was my first car and it'll be the one I never sell.

I remember early articles of Rick and David. I believe it was the early 90s. I do remember his putting the Buick 455 in because Jeep used a Buick motor. That and the fact the first car of my dad's that I drove was a Buick Centurian with the 455. Also some lunch hour drag races in 1979.

My first Jeep was a 1943 Ford GPW, also at age 15, but in 1986.

That creep is following the CJ3B again!

I remember seeing a pic of Pewe's flatty on it's side. I think they used a Chevy 2500 to help winch the frame straight and welded it together. Pewe's such a cool guy. Loved the original DED's too. Though my favorite magazine of the time was 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility with Phil Howell at the helm. I always loved how 4WD&SU wasn't too worried about paint. I remember one of the features was a FJ40 and they broke the front bumper off while doing the photoshoot and it was still featured.

How bout them power tanks? Is yours missing because of the recertification B.S.? I love mine, but haven't used it in years. Because where I am, they need shipped away to be tested, and you know that beautiful powder coated tank is never coming back😔. That's some fine print I think most of us missed. Love clampy. when I was 10-13? I had a 41, it had lots and lots of issues, but once you got the starter to function, and fuel to it... thing was nearly unstoppable, even with a cracked head, used it to pull a skidder out of a swamp, and all sorts of misadventures.... like an idiot I sold it for $300 when I was 13... but that went to buy my first Guitar so? win?

I’m getting a 2006 2500 with the 6.6 Duramax. A friend gave me a newer 3500 4x4 chassis that had a Duramax in it. Hmmmmmmm…..

Next time V-groove your butted ends. then fill the V-groove from end to end. It's a frame rail not a piece of thin body sheet metal.

As far as I know aircraft use crimped connectors. Soldering is to brittle

I had an M38 with a broken frame in the front. I was just a kid with a 110v flux core mig and no clue on how to fix it. So I didn't. I just drove the thing to death. It'd get death wobble so bad you had to just stop, that would reset the frame and off I'd go. 😂

What happened to the engine you poured diesel into to free it up from being stuck?

Does this prize jeep come with a trans bearing kit . You can hear the dang thing a county away. I`m suprised it held together for teh entire video, but it is an old jeep , so ya know tey are tanks.. Damn, it is so loud I cant even think.

Hey Fred, Another way to "fix" the issue with the oil drain plug would be to add a 90 degree fitting and some flex line with a valve, with a safety plug in it, to the oil drain. Not sure what the oil filter problems might be as we did not get a good look. Also might try to fab up a hinge so you could swing the one plate down for maintenance. Thanks for pointing out the maintenance issues as that is seldom discussed.

Sorry mate but the 80s series doesn't break as easy as the 200 series even though I like all of them the 80 series is more reliable from my point of view

Good job there Fred. You could put some newer axels just something cheep that would take a locker and do some crazy wheeling with a mostly stock Flat fender. They just seem to surprise with the stuff they will hop over. 👌

I agree the fridge is nice but u can buy a yete cooler for 400 and the ice last for days with out it melting so u won’t get ham water lol
